Company Background

QuickBooks is a suite of mostly cloud-based accounting software products created and owned by Intuit. It’s designed mostly for small and medium-sized businesses. A Self-Employed package is also available for sole proprietors.

QuickBooks supports numerous add-ons and integrates with many leading software solutions in other areas, helping you create a streamlined workflow in your business.

Plans & Pricing

QuickBooks offers new users a 30-day free trial, during which you have free reign over all the features. You can then subscribe to one of three plans. Each one charges $4 per employee per month on top of the base subscription price.

Simple Start

QuickBooks’ entry-level plan is Simple Start, costing $12.50 per month for three months, then $25 per month after. This plan lets you create and send invoices, accept payments, track income and expenses, organize receipts, track sales tax, manage cash flows, and generate reports. Simple Start doesn’t allow multiple users.

The most popular QuickBooks plan is Plus, which costs $40 for three months, then $80 per month after. It includes all features from Simple Start and adds inventory management and profitability tracking. Plus lets you add up to five users and give them all basic permissions with Plus.

At the top is Advanced, which comes with all Simple Start and Plus features, but adds plenty of its own. These additions include business analytics/insights, approvals and reminders, management reports, automated workflows, the ability to restore company data, and more.

Advanced users have 24/7 premium support access and can make use of on-demand online training.

Advanced lets you add up to 25 users with custom roles. This plan costs $90 for three months, then $180 per month after. QuickBooks is pricier than a lot of the competition, but its features certainly justify it. You also save some cash with the free trial and intro pricing.

Features & Functionality
General Features
Income and Expense Tracking

A foundational aspect of bookkeeping is, well, tracking your income and expenses. Fortunately, QuickBooks makes this super easy. You can categorize transactions with the click of a button, add transactions manually, sort and filter through your transactions, and more. It keeps all of this in one intuitive dashboard, making for easy bookkeeping.

Receipt Storage and Organization

When you’re out and about shopping for your business, you need a way to save the receipts for documentation purposes.

QuickBooks makes it easy to snap a photo of a receipt for any transaction and attach it to said transaction for future reference.

Customer Quoting, Invoicing, and Payment Tracking

QuickBooks offers plenty of quoting and invoicing features that make it easy to provide customers quotes, send custom invoices, and track payments. You can also arrange recurring invoices and send reminders.

QuickBooks lets you account for discounts, shipping, and taxes, too making your bookkeeping simple. Of course, much of this invoicing data flows directly into your books, too.

Business Insights and Reporting

A key aspect of bookkeeping is evaluating your numbers via reports.

QuickBooks lets you generate succinct balance sheets, P&L statements, and other types of statements and reports with a button click or two. You can also export reports with ease if needed.
