Company Background

SimpleSite, as the name suggests, is a straightforward platform that is ideal for individuals and small brands who need to get online fast. The simple interface, essential features, and ability to take payments online make it a solid DIY choice.

Plans & Pricing

The platform has a simple pricing structure that’s determined based on the features you’d like to take advantage of. You’re able to start with a limited free plan then upgrade as your needs increase.

SimpleSite has a relatively expensive entry level premium plan when compared to other website builders but the eCommerce plan is comparable to what other platforms charge. For the features offered, it is a bit more expensive than other tools.

Basic

The Basic plan is free and allows you to start exploring the website builder so you can decide if it’s right for you. It comes with up to 15 pages, a few design options, and the ability to add up to five products to an online store. There are also ads for SimpleSite services that’ll be shown to your visitors.

Pro

The Pro plan expands on the basic features and costs $15.49/mo. You get a free domain for the first year, unlimited pages, unlimited images, unlock all the design options, and up to five email addresses mapped to your domain. SimpleSite ads are removed but you’re still limited to only five products in your online store.

E-Commerce

The E-Commerce plan costs $30.49/mo. It has all the same features of the previous plan but allows you to sell an unlimited number of products through your eCommerce shop.

Features & Functionality
Design

SimpleSite doesn’t have what we’d refer to as templates, instead, it has themes. These pre-built themes control the colors used on your website and allow you to skip the hassle of finding the perfect color combination. They’re not categorized based on any specific use case, you’ll just have to scroll through the list to find them.

You can change the layout, position of sections, fonts, footer, etc. and it’s easy to switch between themes. The challenge is that all of the designs look more or less the same so you may have to do major tweaking to create something unique.

Ease of Use

One of the major things that SimpleSite has going for it is an intuitive interface. When you register, it takes you through a multi-step wizard that helps you configure your most important settings. After that, it walks you through where the major options are and what they do. This takes less than five minutes.

Adding pages is straightforward and setting up your website is also something a complete novice can handle. A small website should take no more than a few hours to complete.

Customer Support

SimpleSite offers help and support in a variety of ways depending on what you need. There’s a basic FAQ, tutorial videos, and email support. The response times are slow but the team is knowledgeable.

Final Word

SimpleSite was founded in 2003 as a platform to help nontechnical users and small brands get online with the least amount of friction possible. Over the years, it has accomplished this and now has over 26 million users. There are a number of features which include an online store, a simple page builder, the ability to easily switch between themes, and more. SimpleSite lacks robust design flexibility and deep features like editing the HTML content of your pages. This is a major drawback if you’re an online-first business that needs to stay on the cutting edge of web design to attract customers. It’s ideal for you if you just want to get online but don’t have complicated customization or branding needs.
