Ooma Office VoIP's Offerings

Ooma has two types of service. The first is a service specifically tailored for residential customers. This service comes with two plans: Basic and Premier. The basic plan is actually free and includes unlimited calling within the United States but little else. Actually, it’s free as far as Ooma is concerned, but depending on where in the US you live, you will be required to pay monthly taxes and fees including 911 service fees, regulatory compliance fees, and local taxes. These usually come in under $10 a month.

The premier service, however, at a monthly cost of $9.99 plus those same pesky applicable fees and taxes, provides you with many more features including a second line, a backup number, voicemail, call forwarding, three-way conferencing, and free calling to additional international destinations.

Both residential plans require the Ooma Telo White device at a one-time cost of $99.00, or a choice of other more advanced devices for various connectivity options including Wi-Fi and 4G LTE.

Ooma’s second type of service is for businesses of all sizes. With four different levels of service priced at a monthly cost per user, you are given a variety of options and features to choose from. You can use your desktop, laptop, or mobile phone to download the appropriate free software and set up your phones on those devices, but if you want physical desk phones or cordless phones, you will have to buy them separately. These are available to be purchased directly from Ooma, or in some cases, can be acquired from a third party, as long as Ooma certifies their compatibility.

Ooma’s costs are comparable to other similar providers, but don’t seem to have the option of being billed annually, a feature that other providers typically provide with a discount. However, compared to more traditional providers.

    As mentioned before, Ooma is a down-to-earth service, which essentially means you get what’s advertised, nothing more, nothing less. It’s a service that offers the most utilized features, and to be honest, it’s quite straightforward to both set up and to use. That goes for desk phone, mobile app, and desktop app users. People have reported that its customization is quite simple and intuitive. There have been a couple of reports that some features, such as the virtual receptionist were slightly confusing, but for the most part, ease of use is part of the package.

    Verdict:

    Ooma seems to tick all the boxes when we speak about the available service levels it offers, the feature sets it delivers, and the flexibility of options that are available. With the use of particular software or hardware and the possible integration with other products and services, it is a future-proof choice for businesses of any size.

    Horrendous customer service
    If you want endless frustration, customer service with a track record of messing up every request, and outdated technology then this is the company for you. Trying to reach someone in the continental US is almost impossible and requires numerous calls and requests for transfer that never happen the same day. Their overseas support staff have a 100% record with us, spanning about eight years, of messing up every request we've made from number transfers to called IDs, incorrect charges, sending incorrect technology to achieve what we need, and more. Please find yourself a company of people who are trained competently and have the authority to connect you to someone who can help if they can't instead of repeating the litany that they can't do anything and company policy prohibits transfers to anyone except a local supervisor who also has neither the training nor the ability to connect you to someone who can help.

    Poor customer service
    Tried this system for my office in the 215 area code. First problem, OOMA assigns us a 610 area code to show up on caller ID. No one to change this until we port our current number to OOMA. This was very confusing for our existing customers. We were promised a OOMA rep to help set up the system, called the white glove service. Actually, this was their general customer service reps trying to follow flow charts. Half the time the rep had no idea what they were doing. FYI the flow charts they are reading are right off of the OOMA website. After a week, we still did not have the efax service promised. The 1-800 number was still not set up. When you are on one line and another call comes in there is no way to put the current call on hold and pick up the new call, guaranteeing the the customer a trip to the cumbersome virtual receptionist and eventually to voice mail. The only person that seemed to care was the sales rep, and that only lasted about a day. Then like the rest of the company, he just didn't care. Easy decision to get out quick.

    Great Customer Service
    We are recently transferring our 2 phone lines from Verizon to Ring Central. We really like it, it cuts our costs 30% and they do have a great customer service that answers your call 24/7.

    This service has earned its five stars rightfully so. The system runs smoothly and the communication options are perfect!

    • I can interchange between phones (use cellphone to answer business call) which is immensely a bonus when working from home.

    Ooma Office gives us the features we need - including mobile access to our phones, voice mail, virtual fax, and virtual conference rooms. It also allows us to send and receive texts and manage everything remotely for a low monthly fee per extension. It gives us what we need and allows for easy future expansion.     Easy to Use for Small Business
    I have been using Ooma office since 2017. It has made managing calls so much easier. The office assistant basically acts as an intercept between the caller and my direct lines. I am able to stop robo-calls and people are directed to the best number for their needs. I have a custom message set up that represents my business while still allowing for Ooma to provide a professional service that would otherwise not be affordable for my small business.
