Customer Support
Unicheck offers all the standard customer support channels except for live chat. Its help center covers basic topics and resources catering to students and educators. Although there is no opportunity to chat with a representative, Unicheck’s prompt phone and email support make up for it.
Unicheck’s help center covers a decent number of topics, but there wasn’t any article or page dedicated to directly answering whether or not they offered a free trial.
Their search function would simply highlight articles that contain the search word or phrase instead of articles that directly answer any questions related to the word. In this case, the guidance of a chatbot would be more helpful to get the answers I need quickly.
Nevertheless, I tested their customer support via the contact form to check how fast they would respond. I asked whether Unicheck offers a free trial and if they have integrations. I was impressed to have received a reply within 10 minutes. The answers they provided were clear.
Features & Functionality
General Features
Similarity Report
Unicheck’s similarity report is generated after analyzing billions of web pages in its database. A similarity score is given to each source detected, and the report automatically arranges these scores from highest to lowest. The similarity report also includes documents in your library in its analysis to help point out self-plagiarism.
Color Mask
Unicheck assigns color codes for different sources for easy reference. Yellow highlights indicate phrases that have similarity scores. Blue is for citations, while violet is for references.
Minimap
Unicheck’s minimap feature gives you a report overview of your document. Each line is color-coded and corresponds to a specific page, making it easy and quick to review texts that need to be edited.
Citation Detection
The citation feature excludes quoted sentences or proper citations from the report so that your overall similarity score will be lower. It recognizes the MLA, APA, Chicago, Harvard, and Turabian formats.
LMS Integrations
Unicheck’s K-12 and higher education plans come with integrations for popular LMS like Google Classroom, Canvas, Moodle, and Schoology.
Privacy
Unicheck ensures privacy and security for your documents because its servers are hosted in the Amazon Web Services cloud. This also makes them GDPR and FERPA compliant.

Performance:
Unicheck is one of the fastest plagiarism checkers available. Its report generation matches Grammarly’s in terms of speed. A document of 1053 words took Unicheck only 22 seconds to deliver a comprehensive plagiarism analysis. For 192 words, meanwhile, I waited only for 5 seconds. At the time of checking, my Internet speed was 80.34 mbps.
Unicheck’s plagiarism technology is also good enough to detect different types of plagiarism and doesn’t excuse common or overused phrases. If I rewrite a plagiarized sentence and change a few words, the software still detects it but gives a lower similarity percentage.
However, it pales compared to competitors like Quetext, which has unique features that take surrounding words into context.
While it also has a citation and references detection which will exclude your citations, it only works if you follow the MLA, APA, Chicago, Harvard, and Turabian format. This makes it a handy feature for educational papers and news articles, but not for blogs.
Ease Of Use:
Unicheck’s user interface is simple and visually appealing. It’s also very intuitive. For new users, the software will provide a sample document containing all the guidelines on its features. Once you absorb those, the tool is a breeze to use from there.
Having documents checked for plagiarism is also time-saving because Unicheck provides consistently fast performance. Even if your Internet connection is bad, the tool will give you reports in seconds.
Its Google Docs add-on is also easy to install and use. If you are on Unicheck’s education plan, you can also get access to more integrations to learning management systems like Canvas, Schoology, Moodle, and Google Classroom.
Unicheck ease of use:
However, because Unicheck charges per page (275 words), there is no real-time editor once your document is checked. It will cost another page if you want to have the document rechecked after making edits.
Unicheck is specially designed for school institutions and perhaps offers better deals to them. But for business and personal users, the software may not be cost-effective, especially for those who regularly write documents of 1000 words. This word count will already cost 4 pages in Unicheck.
Uniqueness:
Unicheck is a special plagiarism detection software for schools. Its citation features, integrations with LMS, and unique quotes for institutions make it ideal for students and educators.
Verdict:
Unicheck’s plagiarism checker is standard-grade. It can check all forms of plagiarism in a matter of seconds, and also has the capability to exclude citations and references. However, it lacks other helpful features that writers may need, including a real-time editor and a grammar checker.
Although Unicheck has a free version, you may need an account to access it. Personal and business plans may not be a cost-effective option for those who have to check a large number of documents with high word counts. You are better off with other plagiarism checkers that offer subscriptions and complementary features to plagiarism checks.
Unicheck is specifically developed for school use; hence students and educators will benefit the most. The flexible plans and integrations Unicheck offers cater to institutions and those who use learning management systems.
